This thing has amazing potential. And then frustrates me no end.
Key dislikes:
1) "It's a power switch. But WAIT, it's not!" Whoever designed this switch should be shot. Half the time I can't get it to power off the darn thing until a forced power reset occurs. Worthless and stupid design. A simple on-off would be easier. smarter. simpler.
2) Why can't I simply, easily delete items I no longer want? Not only would it free up space, it would get it off the recent items list. Which I somehow manage to have to scroll through every time. I still can't seem to get the January 28th edition of the Wall Street Journal to move out of the way.
3) Speaking of the Journal, I already pay for the Wall Street Journal content. Both in print and online. I DO NOT want to pay for the content again in a format that doesn't let me control how its archived, or printed, or shared.
Overall. Not that happy with it yet.
Suggestions for improvement. Have a hardware design firm, like Ideo, review the GUI. This thing is not intuitive. Except maybe to anyone who's never used a Mac or even a PC. Speaking of Mac... I need to get my hands on an iPad!

I purchased my kindle late Dec. and have hardly put it down. Reading from a regular book or extended time on a computer is major eye strain on my eyes since having laser eye surgery 4 years ago. I can read on the Kindle for hours without eye strain. Being able to read the first chapter before making the purchase is a major plus as well. I totally love it and have inspired 2 friends to purchase as well.

I don't know what complaining is about. This product is exactly what is advertised, and some. When you order a book, it is available to read in about 30 seconds, anywhere, anytime. I love shopping the Amazon store; it's got everything that I want in a bookstore and so convenient. I love having any book I want at my fingertips and I've been reading alot more since I got the Kindle. I've tried out several periodicals and I like that I can test them out for 14 days, no charge. I enjoy sampling the books to make sure that I want to purchase them. I think it is a terrific product and is worth the price. It's everything I expected it to be, but better. My husband wanted me to wait for the mini-computer that can also be used as a reader, but that wasn't what I wanted. If I want to use the computer or browse the internet, I'll go to the full size computer I have at work or at home. I wanted a product that was light weight and portable, just for reading. I love my Kindle and would recommend it highly.

I received my Kindle as a gift and like the device.
My first book purchase had poor formatting - spaces in the middle of words and lines endings in the middle of unhyphenated words. It was a small book to try out the Kindle. A quick read so the formatting was just an irritation. My second book, today's 700+ pages, non fiction buy, at $9.95 does not have a table of contents. The kind of book one needs to be able to dip into and skim for items of interest. Is one supposed to print out a hard copy of the TOC to carry around with the Kindle in order to search on the title text? I can't see myself investing any time to plow sequentially through this book. If there is no indication when buying a Kindle publication that it lacks such minimal characteristics of a book as a TOC or normal word formation, how is one to gain confidence in the medium?
