Good netbook with full keyboard

Great little netbook at an affordable price. The technical specifications are pretty standard for a netbook 2010/2011: 1G RAM, 250GB HD, 3 USB ports, camera base, separate microphone and headphone jack, SD card slot, VGA output and a battery life of 8 hours.
There are many netbooks on the market like this, but what really stands out for me is the keyboard, full size keyboard with all the main cursor movement keys: Up, Down, Right, Left dedicated PgUp, PgDn, Home and End . I work with Excel spreadsheets and it is really complicated ORF with the key combination Fn + End / to the end + Up / Down or Ctrl + fn + home, ctrl + fn + end, etc to move around.

Even scrolling with Page Up / Page Down to read a web page is the duration of pain if you also have to press the Fn key! With most netbooks you live with the Fn key, in this case does not have the NB505 keyboard is very convenient and comfortable, almost like a laptop or keyboard, complete, and the key layout is not standard, the can work faster and easier.
I also feel very soft when takes a few blankets, very nice and handles great! Windows 7 Starter is really important, but you can find programs, utilities, and advice on the Internet, the basic package "missing features" how to adopt or change the background image, received the colors, sounds, resize images, etc. I get rid of most Toshiba utilities and also part of Norton Security installed and MS and my editing program freeware favorite at home.

I would like stereo speakers, but this netbook has only a mono speaker on the device. I have old Toshiba laptop with an excellent experience, in reality, they are still in progress (Win98, 450 MB HD, 64 MB of RAM)! I decided to give it a chance and bought the netbook from Amazon. She came quickly, and work OK! (No DOA). Its been a month since I have a netbook and I'm always happy, but I think the upgrade to 2 GB of memory to make it snappy, I find Windows XP to Win7 heavy GB of RAM (but just my opinion ...). Overall, I recommend it to my friends!

I love this netbook. some people complain about the keyboard but i love it. i never have a prblem typing, also never have issue with mouse pad while typing. the screen is great i hear people complaing about it but it states its 10.1 inches. what else are you expecting? i upgraded the ram asap. i played with it before i did, and i was always at around 78% of ram being used and it was slower if i multitasked. after i updated i had 3 windows opened and downloading itunes and was only at 46%. well worth it. I am also using the targus dvd-rom drive. I love it, but,
PLEASE BE AWARE THAT in order for this to work you will need to download VLC MEDIA PLAYER. you can fo this from [...].
i tried everyother program, itues, real, wmp, none work, microsoft does this on purpose so you will spend the $80 and upgrade. VLC is free and worked within minutes.

i LOVE the battery!!!! it is the ONLY reason i didnt get a full sized laptop. i can run full speed for half of a day, multitasking and no issues. Haven't tried a full day yet.
I have had this for about 2 weeks and am loving it.

The only issue is the screen smudges super easy and it is annoying! im gonna get a soft cloth to carry around. i hope that will help.

Toshiba Mini NB305 Netbook Review

As I type these words on my new Toshiba N305 Netbook I feel as if I have somehow entered a new age in technology. The keyboard is impressive to say the least and the machine seems quite sturdy. The raised keys respond well with tactile feedback and are spaced far enough apart to prevent typos due to minor finger slippage.

I am inspired by the Toshiba design and ease of use. I am sitting on my bed right now and the keyboard is tilted forward enough so I don't have to exacerbate my bilateral Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and the lid / screen tilts back far enough that not unlike the best sexual partner, the angle seems perfect.

After fiddling about in the computer store with the three models I had narrowed my search down to, and giving up with the tiniest netbook, the lady's purse sized Sony Vaio which has a keyboard that is just too tiny... the fifty or so dollars more in price went to the Toshiba for keyboard, 250GB and Bluetooth capability for the easy transfer of files and syncing between the netbook, the desktop and the handheld cellular device.

The two top contenders were the new ASUS EEE Seashell PC with Bluetooth and the new Acer One also with Bluetooth. The ASUS has a nice thin and sleek shell and the keyboard is seemingly improved over previous models. I liked the ASUS raised "chicklet" or "island" style keyboard as well as the Toshiba's but even though they are both plastic, the Toshiba seems metallic and sturdier and the keys take a nice punch well. I was less impressed with the Acer One keyboard which seemed flat and lifeless compared to Toshiba's.

On taking the Toshiba netbook to work I was made aware of one big negative fact: netbooks are still too heavy. This is 3 pounds which slung over my shoulder after a long day is like a ball and chain. I want a netbook that isn't going to cause any back strain. I want a one pound netbook like the Sony Vaio, however that keyboard would not be satisfactory to me so at this time, so that and the promised 9 plus hour battery life are why the Toshiba is my first choice.

I've been using this for about a month now, and I'm definitely satisfied with my purchase. It's a fantastic netbook: Windows 7 runs smooth and fast, the chiclet keyboard is roomy and comfortable, and all the other major elements are polished and functional.

My issue with the NB305, is the battery life, not so much while the computer is in use, but when it is hibernating or sleeping. When you're using it, the battery lasts a long time especially in so-called "eco mode" which adjusts the power settings automatically for maximum battery life, as opposed to maximum performance. Strangely, the issue I have with the battery, which is my only real gripe about the NB305 at all, is that it seems to drain inordinately large amounts of battery while it is in standby. If you simply close the screen when you are done with any given session, which I generally do, you'll find the battery significantly drained if you open it back up a couple hours later. Even in hibernate, it seems to eat power. You have to go through shut down before packing it up, and then you will find it lasts much longer.

Obviously, this isn't a deal-breaker, it just requires you to adopt that new (and probably good) habit of turning everything off before packing it up. Startup is quick anyway, generally less than two minutes, so it hasn't been a huge problem. I still recommend this Toshiba, and don't regret my decision at all.

I have owned several notebooks and desktops in my lifetime; my most recent notebook gave out a few months ago after three years, and my desktop computer is a couple of years old but still holding strong. I wanted a netbook for portability and as a second computer option (in case the desktop is ever temporarily offline for any reason).

I started seriously looking at picking up a netbook last year, back when the n280 chip was standard. None of the netbooks at the time quite lived up to my expectations in terms of features and form. I decided to wait for the new chipset.

After quite thoroughly comparing over 15 different netbooks all running the new 1.66ghz Intel n450 chip, I ordered the Toshiba NB305-N410WH and after nearly a week with it I feel very comfortable with my purchase; it's my new best friend. (For what it's worth, the runner-up was the Asus Eee PC 1005PE-PU.)

I love the texture of the NB305 -- it's not glossy so it doesn't stupidly attract fingerprints. I don't usually like white things, especially for electronics, but this one carries well (I figured the white would go nicely with the beautiful silver keyboard) and I don't see it getting dirty easily like most white things do.

I have installed more software than I expected a netbook to be able to handle, and it has managed my multitasking admirably. Occasionally I ctrl+shift+esc myself to check the task manager and manage whatever's running up the CPU or RAM processes, but I do that even more often with big powerful desktop computers. Internet has been very snappy, and I have had zero issues with setup and ongoing connection.

I spent the $50 to purchase 2gb stick of RAM. I'm pretty sure that's made a good difference, though the machine was keeping up quite well running multiple apps even on just 1gb of RAM.

I will probably pick up a $20-25 bluetooth usb adapter at some point.

The touchpad has been very properly responsive. Check the settings/update your synaptics touchpad drivers if you want to make sure to have the full featureset of gesture controls; I love them. Of course, as all the pro reviews have noted, the keyboard is excellent; it looks great and feels great.

The screen is really good despite its small size. The 1024x600 is better than I expected. For the most part, I'm (surprisingly) perfectly content not to be on a bigger screen (I've been otherwise used to a dual-monitor setup with monitors 21-24", but I've felt no urge to connect the NB305 to an external monitor).

The sound quality of the speakers is rather weak; fortunately, sound quality with headphones plugged in is good and there are interesting/effective sound customization features that are easily adjustable.

I'm estimating my battery life so far to be at roughly 8+ hours at pretty much maximum performance (aside from my screen, which I like at ~4.5 brightness level even when plugged in).

I found Starter Wallpaper Changer, perfect little app that provides precisely what Microsoft shamefully blocked. I also found instructions online to change the background image of the login screen. So my netbook is now highly attractive both outside and in. :)

Though my desktop computer is still technically the more powerful machine, and I'll certainly still turn to it for more hefty tasks, I've already been using my NB305 as a primary machine, and I see myself potentially using it more often than my desktop from here out.

I am very pleased with my NB305.

Now I'm on a quest to find the perfect case(s) for my netbook. (I want to be able to take it with me everywhere!)

Toshiba Mini NB305-N410BL Reviews (All-Reviews)

B. Sauls ( Atlanta, GA USA )
I had been looking at the various netbooks for a while and really liked Toshiba's NB205 but just couldn't get around the negative comments on battery placement and speaker quality. The NB305 was specifically designed to address these concerns - different battery placement and two speakers instead of just the one on the 205.

As for things this shares with the 205: The chiklet keyboard just rocks - space between the keys goes a long way towards cutting down on the mistypes that you get on the keyboards where the keys are merging one into the next. It may not matter to many people but if you have a long haired cat or dog that sheds and likes to spend time in your lap the fact that this is a much easier keyboard to keep pet hair out of is a huge plus as well. Having two separate mouse buttons instead of one rocker bar is handy for those of us who like to actually use the right click. Keyboard layout as a whole is very "touch type" friendly so those who actually learned how to type on a real keyboard or -gasp- typewriter can actually use this keyboard. Portability is also another huge plus, when it's closed this little guy doesn't have much more of a footprint than a decent sized hard cover book and while I realize that this just means it's a netbook as somebody who still remembers his high school computer lab having IBM PS-2's it's still amazing.

In an effort to make this a true review I'll also hit a few of the things that are shortcomings for the NB305. Is this going to let you watch high def movies - no. Is this going to let you play World of Warcraft or other graphic intensive games - no. Are you going to be able to multi-task 5 different RAM intensive applications - be serious you only have 1G of RAM or 2G if you upgrade.

The reason I'm giving such a great rating to this netbook is that having said all of the things that the NB305 - and for that matter netbooks in general - can't do the simple fact is that I don't want to do and wouldn't expect to do those things on a 10.1 in screen to begin with. If you want to play games there are laptops targeted for that market, if you want to watch HD video get a laptop with a blue-ray not something that doesn't even have an optical media drive. You can get a laptop that plays games - full discloser I have one, handles HD video and/or serves as near "desk top replacements" and you can get them for not a lot more than you will spend to get the NB305, what you will not get is the portability. Personally I want something to check my email, check headlines on the web, watch the occasional You-Tube, do word processing, handle I-Tunes and allow me to use a Citrix client to access the work related apps on a server when I'm away from the office and still fit in my briefcase. This little guy fits the bill and looks good doing it - thanks Toshiba.

This absolutely would be the Perfect Computer if the Plastic wasnt so cheap. It doesnt feel cheap, but the silver finish below the keyboard is coming off in three places. ive only had this for about a month. Otherwise though, this is a great computer. I can squeeze 10 hours of battery life out of it and the keyboard is really great.
And or all you people out here that are annoyed about not being able to change your desktop background, google stardock MyColors and download it from the legit page. Its not Malware, and i have used it to change my background on starter many times.

Admittedly, I do not own this netbook. I am actually just about to order it. So I, obviously, can not review the item yet. This quick note is in reference to some of the other reviewers that have put in their two cents.

Why is everyone slamming this netbook for windows 7 starter? Were you not aware of what you were ordering? No, that can't be it, it is in bold letters right in the title! ALL the current netbooks are offering this OS! I love that some of the reviews state that they want to send it back and get an Acer (or whatever)...unless you order the older version of ANY of the netbooks, you will get Windows 7 STARTER. If you want the full version, you will either have to pay for it separately, or get an actual laptop. Will I like Windows 7? I have no clue yet. But, I certainly will not fault this netbook if I don't! If I am too worried about it, I would go to a store and actually browse around it a bit prior to purchase..as any intelligent consumer would. You can not fault a product for what you are clearly made aware of. No one can spoon feed you common sense! It is up to you, as the consumer, to be a big boy/girl and do some research! Now, do I blame Microsoft for this obvious money gouging? Umm, yes! Lay the blame squarely where it belongs!

I received my Toshiba Mini NB305-N410BN 10.1-Inch less than a month ago. I Had an NB205 before running on the Windows XP. The NB305 runs on Windows 7 starter. I am disappointed with my purchase. the computer is very slow, In fact so slow that the courser is always behind a step making it so difficult to type anything fast. I have to take time in between so the computer can catch up with me (I am so slow in typing, in fact I type with two fingers only). The problem is that Toshiba did apparently not think about the Windows 7 demanding operating system before marketing this product to the public. Sounds like another Japanese product gone Toyota way.

The worse is that the customer service leaves you with no solution, they know it! I asked if I could convert to Windows XP! The answer was that I am on my own w/o any customer support as soon as I load Windows XP.

It is really sad to pay more for the newest product and yet you realize what they sold to you has less performance than their older product.

I am totally disappointed and most likely return my Toshiba perhaps for an ACER!

I bought this model based on the fact that it came preloaded with the Windows Office suite. However, it is just a trial version, which I only realized after spending an hour on the phone with both Amazon and Toshiba. It is very misleading, because there is a product key that comes with the machine; however, the site does not recognize it once you put it in.

I bought this netbook one week after it came on the market, as soon as I heard the battery had been redesigned with a smaller profile.

I'm in love with the chicklet keyboard. It separates the keys and my hands never slip off of "home row." The keyboard did take about two days to break in -- the keys were unresponsive some of the time -- but now everything is very smooth. I'm a speed typist, and I find this keyboard much easier to use than my kids' 15" laptop with the traditional flat keyboard, where I always felt like my fingers would lift up the keys or or lose their place.

The battery lasts a VERY long time. The operating system easily accepts all kinds of attachments without a hitch (such as a wired mouse, a wireless mouse, a DVD drive, my e-reader device).

Set up was a breeze and the large hard drive is a boon for loading the various software that I like to use.

For those who care about looks, the Java Brown (chocolate) color is different, unique, and gives a feeling of elegance. My friends really like it.

Is there anything I would change? Well, I'd like it to be about a pound lighter, but that would make it even more expensive. I think the shut down phase takes a little too long, but that's minor. At least the wake-up from sleep mode is fast.

This is my first netbook, but I've been shopping around for quite a while. I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

I will admit this is my first netbook but I do have two laptops and two other desktops in the house. The keyboard is absolutely great on this machine, it is what attracted me to the Toshiba initially. I have had this machine for about a week now and so far there is nothing that I can really complain about. The battery life is incredible, although I have yet to try to drain it. Today the machine was on, but not in constant use, for over six hours and it still showed 40% battery life. The screen is very good and even though only 10.1" I am forgetting that I'm on a small machine. Very spacious hard drive at 250GB. This prompted me to permanently move my iTunes collection to this machine so that I can update my podcasts and sync regularly while travelling.

I purchased the machine primarily as a personal and entertainment machine while travelling for business. I am able to keep it next to my full size work laptop while responding to email or other tasks and easily "jump" over to it to access Gmail or Facebook (prohibited on the company issued laptop). I have also used it to stream Netflix while in a hotel with little issue, any issues were mainly to poor wifi coverage in the room.

Toshiba has done a very nice job of setting up a variety of very useful Function+F key shortcuts. Mute,Lock,Sleep,Power Mode,Hibernate,Brightness,Wifi can all be accessed with a quick keystroke.

The sleep mode actually works very well and "wakes" to a ready to use state in mere seconds.

Win7 Starter is really not bad, little functionality has been removed so as to keep the user from bogging down the system with too many option but still I find very usable and you really don't miss the removed functions. You can look a very good comparison matrix by Paul Thurrott here.

Since this machine is upgradeable to 2GB of RAM I most likely will just to pepp it up a but right now I LOVE THIS MACHINE and recommend it highly to anyone, even if a little on the pricey side!

Interesting idea, but the bent lip on one side I think that makes it easier to fit a laptop takes up more space in your suitcase, backpack, etc. Also, the case is on the strong side that reduces the experience of having a pen netbooks. All that said, the thing is very strong, except for the edges.

A netbook was the age of our son (13) Christmas list. After much research, we opted for this. We like the keyboard layout and feel (we went out shopping to see them). We like long battery life, and we wanted one with Intel N280. I also liked that it had a 250GB hard drive (most are 160GB). We decided to upgrade the RAM to 2GB. My son wanted a computer that could have had with him and he could not decide between a laptop or netbook, but because it already has a desktop, who directed toward the netbook, because it is more portable. My best friend bought a netbook, even for his 13 years. My friend and I both returned from our netbooks. Freezing kept my friend, and then, finally, the track pad stopped working altogether. I heard that the trackpad has a few questions about the Toshibas, and jokingly I realized that there would be one with this problem!

A little 'later, the scroll function of my son for his track pad would stop working intermittently. This addition is already frustrated at reduced speed, screen size and small netbooks. OK, we know the size of the screen - which has been given. But we were surprised by the slow speed (even after upgrading the RAM) and, frustrated by the problems track pad. We just sent our son back. My friend ended up buying the daughter of a mini Dell Inspiron and love it! They said it still seems faster than the Toshiba, but I can not confirm this first hand. My son just before the netbook thing completely and choose an iPod touch and a new Rock Band guitar / game instead! So all's well that ends well, I guess!

I used my Toshiba from mid-November. And 'fast for a Netbook, and battery life incredible. I like the overall look and the keyboard is better prepared (with spaces between the keys) that my laptop to work much more expensive. My husband liked it so much I bought one and sent one to my mother for Christmas. We all love it.

I bought this netbook through Amazon as a gift for my wife. Short version, does not work. I tried to call Toshiba customer service, "the figures in the books of safety and the information contained in it, after all, has been given different versions to run and transfers to other departments. When I finally talked to someone who identified himself as a manager, I was immediately greeted with attitude and indifference. STRONGLY recommend that anyone considering buying a netbook to look the other manufacturers.'m sick of corporate arrogance Toshiba.

This entry has exceeded my expectations! Extrememly happy - even to assess the battery life, but there is no reason to doubt the advertising 9 hours at this point!

Netbook This is a solid choice. Well built and beautiful, too. I would add the next 2 points to the existing database of reviews:

- is loaded with lots of utilities Toshiba. Some good, but in general seems to delay the start. Havent tried to remove them yet.

- This is the Windows 7 no longer a question of goodwill. It does not support home networks Microsoft, then you can not map drives or shared files / folders. You have to improve and costs like $60 .. wanted to load a TFTP server, and then, but could not find a good freeware compatible with Windows 7. Want to downgrade to XP, but I read that I must ensure that all the device driver does not exist .... I have time to do everything that.sucks

Upgraded to 2Gb RAM, which seems to have improved the speed overall

So far, we found this little laptop to be excellent. We bought an external DVD / CD Writer / Reader for use during the loading of music. The only problem we've seen so far is that it is very sensitive to vibration. It seems difficult to say STOP regularly observed vibrations ... not because it is so sensitive, or if it leads nowhere. overall very happy. velocity distribution has been suspended. For me this Saturday, November 28th and it arrived just 3 days later!

I was looking for small computers netbook to travel in and out of office events and most of all life long battery life and offcourse reasonable price compare to the industry. After some research I found the Toshiba NB205 netbook, which fitted my needs. I'm glad I purchased the product. A built in webcam with Skype and collects the use of wireless Internet wherever you are available.
My only problem was with decoder for portable DVD I bought, I finally repaired after the call to service Toshiba dept. Shahrad.

This netbook is superb and the finish. I like the keyboard and mouse pad. The 6-cell battery that extends backwards is not a problem either for me, rather than extending downwards, as in some other netbooks. The only drawback of this netbook is the sound quality, I think it could be better, and would have made perfect, it deserves 5 stars. I am not impressed with Windows 7. I think it is worth the additional cost, Windows XP would have been sufficient.

I spent hours looking at different netbooks and decided to go with the Toshiba. Has the speed and power delivered by the battery life excellent. I use MS Office 2007 with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc., and this netbook does not have problems in their management. I also use ProShow Gold to create videos on it.

Light and elegant. I made a Skype video call and had no problems. Although it is not advisable for the netbook game in high resolution, I recommend this netbook for the web, research and production functions, where a small package is desired. The clarity of the LCD is the best of all others in its class, as I'm concerned.
