I was not a fan of netbooks that many out there, but this guy really surprised me. I started to compare against this netbook netbook from Asus, Acer, Samsung, Sony, Toshiba and Gateway (a fairly complete line-up). There was a sharp contrast between the series of Mini 10 netbook and manufactured by other companies. For me, the decision to purchase really came down to comfort and ingenuity of its design. I believe that others choose this model mainly for the same reasons.

===== It's Comfortable =====
This thing is a dream to use. Most netbooks are unusable for me. What else bites with netbooks is the keyboard. I'm used to low-profile, scissors style chiclet switch keyboards that are (or at least used to be) more common in laptops, and in fact I love them. I refer to the type of keys that are flat and flush with the rest of the palm, and has a flange or just the edges of the lips (where the space between the keys). To see exactly what I mean, check the close-up on the right (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00361G10S?tag=a52-20&ie=UTF8 productDescription #). These types of keyboards makes writing very easy, since it will not cause wrist strain due to high keys or keys that require more force to press.

===== It's Innovative =====
The touch pad is small, but smart, who can hit the corners of the mat bottom-left/bottom-right to left-click/right-click (respectively), instead of wasting space by the application of separate buttons. The touch pad is very palpable, as texture and the finish is matte and not glossy, making it much more conducive to slide the fingers of most other netbooks I put my fingers. Most of the bearings netbooks touch was brilliant, making your skin strength and resistance to dragging gestures. I think the feeling of being almost annoying as fingernails on a blackboard! Netbooks were visibly covered with oil stains and grease of fingers, both within the block of the track and also at the wrist. Instant off for me on anything, but Dell! The Mini-10, another blot was free, thanks to the use of palm oil resistant soft rest texture.

===== What I Loved =====
* Keyboard design - 92% full-size!
* Touch pad design - genius usability features
* Wrist rest - comfortable, remains clean/streak-free
* 3 USB ports - 2-left/1-right is dandy for using a USB mouse
* Windows 7 - Vista isn't optimized for netbooks, 7 is
* 9:16 ratio display - great for movies (see above for DVD solution)
* Keyboard + Touch pad design - seriously! It hits the mark spot-on!

The early press reviews loved the performance but hated the track pad. Well the track pad issue seems fixed you need to go to the Dell website and install the updated drivers. The trackpad once you set it for your personal taste works fine. The hidden buttons on it though are harder than most to press.

The specs on Amazon are correct but mine also can with the 6 cell battery (a Dell $120.00 option)

I'm am extremely pleased with this purchase. For the money this is a bargain in the Culv Ultralight and thin category.

I want to add one thing that is perhaps easy to overlook with this laptop: it has the best CPU in it's class and price range. Most notebooks with an 11.6 inch screen have a Celeron CPU (such as the new Acer 1410 series). This means less cache and no "Intel Speedstep" which is an important power saving feature (used when in battery mode). Celeron laptops will drain your battery quickly when you use any compute heavy task. The other common CPU is a single core "Core Solo". The single core CPUs have the bad habit of slowing to a crawl whenever the anti-virus kicks in (because it can't offload that task to the second core) and being generally slow if you run any internet security software(which any sane person would today but adds a lot of background CPU tasks that can run on a second core if you have one). You can step up to a full Core2 Duo, but that can add 20%-30% onto the cost (see the Acer Timeline series).

Dell did the right thing here when they used the 1.3GHz Intel Pentium SU4100 Processor. It has two cores, 2MB cache (twice the Celeron but 2/3 the more expensive Core2 Duo), and a 800MHz memory bus (vs. the Celeron's 667Mhz). And it has the all important SpeedStep technology found in the more expensive Core2 Duo. The only major feature it lacks is Virtualization, which is mostly a server technology which no home application to speak of. It uses the same core as the more expensive Core2 Duo so aside from the smaller cache the basic performance is the same (though some Core2 Duos have faster memory bus). It's the best fit price/performance wise but lately it's been passed over for the cheaper Celeron but vendors who count on consumers not knowing any better.

This was offered during the holidays as one of Amazon's daily deals. To get a Dell laptop with 4GB of RAM and a very large laptop hard drive for 449.00 was an outstanding purchase. It was purchased to replace a larger Dell laptop that was heavier. While the old one was great for school, the new lighter weight 1100 is perfect for travelling and taking to the library. The new Windows 7 that came in the computer is also an outstanding upgrade. While XP is great, and Vista only so-so, Windows 7 is a step up from XP and miles above Vista. Overall, this was a wonderful computer offered through Amazon and I would purchase it again without even thinking about it.

Powerful, feature rich, laptop small enough to fall into the netbook catagory. Streaming or stored video plays bautifully due to the dual core CPU, good video processor, and high definition screen. Keyboard is large enough to type on normally after some practice. Only faults are the lack of a VGA output, has only HDMI, and the awful fingerprint gathering glossy black finish. Price on Amazon is the lowest I've found for comparable laptop. As always the packing and shipping were excellent.

I like this product alot. The only complaint I have is that some internet programs run slow on it. But overall it is pretty speedy and easy to cart around. We also bought a mini mouse to go with it but the touch mouse on the keyboard works great and has many features. Overall a good product!

I just purchased my Dell Mini 10 (Blue Cover) and I have to say that this was one of the best investments I ever made. If you think you are getting a high end laptop for the price of three-hundred bucks, then you are sorely mistaken. This is basically a smart phone PDA increased to the size of a ten inch screen with a keyboard attached. Most of the bells & whistles are intact.

At first it took me some time to get use to the screen. Websites are slightly altered due to the 10 inch screen, so and with the tool bar on top that includes (File, Refresh, etc) it can seem like there's hardly any room to view webpage's, but you'll get use to it. Viewing any site that you would on a regular desktop will have certain parts of the page moved around when viewing it on your netbook & this is to be expected because of the size.

I know everyone is complaining about the keypad, but it's really not that bad. It does take a few tries before you realized what works best for you. I've learned from having a Dell Studio Laptop that the best thing to do is just utilize the free space as a mouse and click. Don't bother trying to hit down on the key, but just double tap on the keypad to pick a selection. If you don't, you will find the experience of navigating through websites, typing a document on word, etc to be a horrendous experience.

Otherwise, if you are looking for a great small compact netbook to stay connected to the web, check email, browse a few sites - then this is the netbook for you. There isn't much customization due to the small size of the netbook that feels very light just a little under three pounds and practically smaller and skinnier then the new Twilight book. I would have it ordered it on amazon, but it was cheaper through Dell.

Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase because it's a great investment for anyone who needs internet access on the go. The only complaint I have is the price. I know its three-hundred, but I own a regular laptop with a 15 inch screen & that HP was only three-hundred. Sure, it was not a high end groundbreaking laptop, but it does the trick & power wise, it's stronger than the mini. I really feel the price point should drop by hundred bucks. Otherwise, this is still a great PC tool to have.

Pros:
Light weight (Less then three pounds)
Customizable Cover with different colors
Windows XP (Thank GOD - Vista is so WHACK)
Keyboard is 90% size of a real keyboard
Wi-Fi
3 USB slots
160GB Memory
1.66 GHZ
1GB RAM

Cons:
A bit pricey IMO - It really should be two hundred & under
No DVD Slot

I was excited about receiving this laptop, as soon as it booted i noticed that the applications were extremely slow, this is just Windows 7 and IE8. System at boot consumes 718 MB of 1024GB and performancis is slughish at best. This was due to be a christmas gift but have to return because is is too SLOW!!! System ships with 1 GB memory thought i could upgrade memory but its not supported by DELL !?!?!? Why would DELL produce a product that you cannot upgrade!?!?

Very dissappointed in product, expected more out of a DELL!!! I'm shipping this product back and will look for alternate faster product

I got this in the cyber monday lightning deal that went sold out in a few seconds and let me say that I wouldn't have been too disappointed if I had missed the deal now that I got this thing on my hand for a few days. First of all the screen is a bit too small for my taste and I didn't realize until after the purchase that amazon was selling the 1024x600 version not the 720p version that has been in most review. Second, the Windows 7 is slow, which is nothing new, but apparently I had expected a responsiveness closer to a smart phone, and Windows smart phone is not at all that fast by the way. I have a great suspicion that 2GB memory instead of the non-upgradeable 1GB could have made a great deal of difference in this manner. However, a mixed curse with Windows 7 Starter will limit the number of applications open at a time to total of 3 so 1GB is probably never going to be a problem just because of this self-imposed crippling of the OS. In this respect to the non-upgradeable memory, running full-blown WindowsXP is probably going to shoot you in the foot more than the Windows7 Starter. But on the good part the TV reception is great and the software works, albeit slow to respond in changing channels. Youtube video runs smoothly but since the screen is so short I found myself having to go full screen most of the time instead of watching within the window. The shortness of the screen also makes most of the real estate consumed by the toolbars in the browser to be very annoying, except for Chrome which barely has anything on the top. I guess if I had laid my hand on this item before I purchased it I wouldn't have been too eager to click on the lightning deal, but for the price I don't think I could claim it as a terribly poor machine although I would gladly spring another $100 for the larger resolution and 2GB memory and then it would be just perfect. For now, this is great as a quick companion for emergency use on the road when the regular laptop is just a bit too much hassle to lug around.
